GMOs - the Italian Minister Luca Zaia: the Standing Committee on seeds

 "Today, the Standing Committee on seeds decided to refuse enrolments in a GM maize register. As a result, this is a significant decision as it was adopted unanimously by the whole Committee. Both the Regions representatives and those from the three Ministers of the Committee voted in favour of the precautionary principle full application, which Italian rural policy is based on".
Therefore, the Minister Luca Zaia announced the decision of not to approve the related enrolments - decision adopted today at Palazzo dell'Agricoltura by the GMOs Committee, which was made up of the representatives from the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, the Ministry for the Environment and the Protection of Natural Resources and the Sea, The Ministry of Health and the Regions of Basilicata, Emilia-Romagna, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Lombardy, Tuscany and Veneto.
Moreover, Zaia said "I'm satisfied that the position shared by most of Italian citizens and farmers during the last few years was shared also by the different Institutions represented in the Committee. This aspect undoubtedly provides a kind of further certainty and confidence for all our Italian consumers.  Tomorrow, I'll be already signing the related decree to be forwarded to the Ministers of Health and Environment".
