FAO report "Review of evidence on drylands pastoral systems and climate change"

According to the new FAO report "Review of evidence on drylands pastoral systems and climate change", grasslands play a leading role in mitigating climate change by absorbing and storing CO2.
Because of the extensive nature of grasslands, they hold enormous potential to serve as one of the greatest terrestrial sinks for carbon.
This paper aims at underlining and providing an overview  of opportunities for adaptation and mitigation in dryland pastoral and agropastoral systems.
By  illustrating  the interrelations between climate change, land and livestock, the document in question provides estimates of the potential carbon storage and sequestration in pasture and rangelands in drylands, thus outlining the main land management measures for improving carbon cycling and grassland management.
It highlights the fact that grassland management can increase productivity and food security, provide development opportunities in resource-poor drylands and reduce impacts of drought and climate change.
