The United Nations appoints the 2014 as International Year of Family Agriculture

In the world there are more than 500 million family-run farms that with their food production feed millions of human beings.
The data comes from the FAO, the United Nations agency for Agriculture in which the UN has entrusted the coordination of work on the initiative, approved by the General Assembly on November 22, 2014 in which year he was appointed International Agricultural Family (IYFF 2014).
At least in terms of information and global communication the importance of agriculture in the recovery of the Man-Planet balance is recognized, through the attention to issues such as availability and health of food, protection of biodiversity and ecosystems, redistribution of wealth and reconstitution of the relationship between rural and urban centers.
The IYFF will promote discussions and a cooperation at the national, regional and international level to raise awareness and understanding of the challenges that lie ahead.
