The project "National Catalogue of Rural Landscapes" promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry aims at creating a list of landscapes having historical importance in terms of significance, integrity and vulnerability. Despite the degradation of Italian rural landscapes, described in the report produced for the national strategic plan, the Italian territory still presents valuable historical landscapes originated since Etruscan and Greek times.
One of the main problems with the conservation and valorisation of the Italian rural landscape is the lack of perception of their importance, both among the administrators and the public. It's, therefore, as important as ever to care for the countryside.
Considering that this is a clear priority for the national rural development project, this project will create a list of areas, with the aim to incorporate them in a National Observatory of Rural Landscape and develop appropriate policies.
